Viva Espana! My Spanish GP moments

Post categories:

Murray Walker | 14:47 UK time, Tuesday, 12 May 2009

The races are all too often dull and processional... but not this year. A cracking start, , little reward for McLaren, BMW, Toyota and Renault, and more than a little interest . Here's my look back at the Spanish Grand Prix.

Brilliant video Murray. Keep up the good work!

    Wow. Keep these up

Been enjoying these videos. Keep them coming.

I can't wait for Monaco, I don't think Brawn and Red Bull will dominate there. The cars are so close as it is so I believe Monaco will mix up the grid a lot.

You're a Legend Murray. Loving the post-race rundowns, keep it up! Nice tank reference as well. :D

Good Stuff MW. That Alonso/Webber battle must have kept the crowd going in a dull afternoon for Fernando. I'm sure it encouraged them to stay till the end. And the pass on Massa, with all respect to Felipe, certainly made them go home happy!

Great summary Murray, still a fairly dull race in my opinion but at least it was better than most and had some excitement at the end with Massa only just getting to the end on fuel.

Cant wait for Monaco, think the Red Bulls wil be the car to have there, a first victory for Mark Webber perhaps?

As Murray says this year "its not boring any more" However Ferrari demand the we return to the days where one or two teams lead the field and the rest were just an insignificant tail "Boring" If they dont get their own way they say they will take their ball away. So be it I am sure with the lower costs other teams will soon join which will make it even more interesting
    WE WONT MISS THEM

Why is it not Sir Murray Walker?

    What.A.Man, a true gent and a legend

Barcelona was the most exciting it has been for a good few years. Monaco should be ace, booked the Friday off work just to watch 1st & 2nd practice. Keep up the good work Murray, every video you have done so far has been excellent!

Probably best to take Thursday off instead mate!

I dont see how these regulations have helped sport im watching grand prix after grand prix with the same enjoyment yet all that has changed is that ferrari and McLaren are now further back and Brawn dominating. WAsn't this sposed to even the field not create a substancially faster car in respect to brawn gp

Thanks for another great review Murray, just wish you had been in the commentary box!

I'm very much enjoying the blog. It's one of my first ports of call for the week (though I should be studying for exams!) Keep up the good work Murray.

The legend that is Murray Walker is very much wasted on small evaluation pieces like this. Someone at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ please do all you can to get this legend back on commentary on the races to liven up what has really become a dreadfully dull sport to watch. I don't think the measures they plan to introduce for next year will make much difference either. You just have to look at A1 GP to see how exciting racing can be when all cars start on a level playing field. Wider tracks, pit windows (to stop races being won in the pits) & universal cars would show truelly who is the best driver in the sport & also bring back the excitment that us fans so desperately crave.

PS: And if Ferrari (my favourite team) & others don't like it then let them go & make their own racing league.

What a fantastic video as usual Murray! The only thing that would be better than this would be you commentating for a few races.

Here's a question for you; Since Ferrari, Toyota and the Red Bull teams have all stated their interest at leaving the support unless the regulations change, Will the FIA change the regulations for them or will they let the teams go?

if you want a formula where all the cars start on a level playing field then watch formula ford or formula renault (or stick to A1 which you mentioned). F1 has NEVER been that kind of formula and if that's what you want then maybe F1 isn't for you.

Great job Murray, is there a chance that maybe you could introduce the gp highlights show, i don,t bother watching it as the full race does me, ( But ) if you were to be part of this tv coverage, then id be interested enough to watch it, and also the 15 minute show they introduce the forthcoming gp,s on A Friday, that should have you on too !
This Is The ´óÏó´«Ã½ And You Are MURRAY WALKER ! Please someone make it happen and make MILLIONS of F1 Fans Happy, I Really Enjoy The F1 Coverage and It,s Nice To Have The Grand Prix Theme Back, But Loose The Computer Cars In The Titles ( They Suck ) Real Cars And Drivers Please.

Monaco should be great like these reviews

Hi Murray, When they have the forum, after the grand prix, how about having a former world champion included in the mix ! Prost, Shumi, Lauda,
Hill, Stewart, i just thought from a former champion, we would get the benefit of their knowledge, and it could be very interesting, as we all know all these former f1 champs, are around on a gp weekend, so why not track some down and spruce up your forum !

    ´óÏó´«Ã½,

Please let Murray commentate at Silverstone. Please!

    hi mr walker
great race in spain ,ross's? great call to change jenson to a two stopper .maybe in monaco rubens will get his next win but odds on are for jenson .

  • Comment number 24.

Excellent as always, shame the videos are only five minutes. Maybe a "Monaco Special" could be a bit longer?

  • Comment number 25.

    Hi Murray,
I think that you need to change your title page, as it states that you "became a broadcasting legend during 50 years of commentating on Formula One for the ´óÏó´«Ã½", although I thought that you first commentated on the 1949 British Grand prix, which, 'unless i'm very much mistaken' makes it 60years.
I'm not sure though if that British Grand Prix was for F1.
Anyway your outstanding service to the ´óÏó´«Ã½ and the British public has been continuing for 60years, hope you are enjoying your semi-retirement.
Maybe a brief guest appearance at Silverstone this year would be welcome.
    Thanks Paul

Captain Murray of the 4th Army Brigade - Battle of Reichswald:

Recently I was glued to Alan Whicker's excellent 4-part "Journey of a Lifetime"

Aunty Beeb must do something similar with you.
I am still looking forward to tea and garibaldi's round yours....oh yes, and a great review yet again...

GB_Paul- although he's been commentating since 60 years ago, presumably the 50 years that he was commentating for the ´óÏó´«Ã½ don't include the last 12 years or so when ITV were broadcasting, or the last eight years since Murray retired from commentating in 2001.

  • Comment number 28.

Hi, I was wondering what you thought of the following question:

    - Seeing as McLaren's and Ferrari's loss of form this season has been largely blamed on the closeness of last term's title fight, at what point will the teams decide that if results do not start going their way this season to concentrate on 2010 and try and gain an early advantage there?

    Many thanks

  • Comment number 29.

so the italian team are theretening to quit so what thay have been trying to run the show for the last few years let them go and try and do it in th usa?

  • Comment number 30.

I agree with GFasulo... please can we have Murray commentating at Silverstone, pleeeeeeeaase?
