Ian Lacey | 10:40 UK time, Thursday, 20 November 2008

Not only is over his exit from Strictly Come Dancing riding high in the ´óÏó´«Ã½ News website's , but last night we also learnt that Strictly host and light entertainment heavyweight Bruce Forsyth - - is a big Newsnight fan and is desperate to appear on the programme.

"All my life I've wanted to be on Newsnight", Bruce told Claudia Winkleman on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Two's Strictly show, It Takes Two.

Here's the proof:

Unfortunately, yesterday proved too short notice and he couldn't make it. But, Brucie, we hereby issue an open invitation for you to do a star turn on the programme at a more opportune moment.

It would be - ahem - nice to see you...

    Meanwhile, here is the news...

  • Comment number 2.

Could John appoint a 'ringer' in his place, Paxman, Clarkson, Brucie himself or dare one of the judges?

No need to return the public's money, appoint a ringer, and like the English football squad, claim a winjury!

Surely Jeremy missed a trick on this one:

John Sergeant never directly answered the "did you jump or were you pushed?" question at the press conference but Jeremy, untypically, failed to pursue the point.

Instead, Sergeant produced only variations on the "knowing when to leave a party" theme. Or to put it another way, like some kind of Iranian hostage paraded before the cameras, he kept repeating the "party" line.

Brucie missed out on Newsnight, could we have John Sergeant on to tell us all the gory details of what 'really' went on in his decision to quit. A little light relief was all we asked in these troubled times and he was great box office for the ´óÏó´«Ã½, once again the beeb trounses the opposition but shoots itself in the foot with 'opinionated and cruel' judges. Talk about egos, 6those judges are a load of nonentities who think the show is all about them. Sorry, it's about the contestants.
