Tonight we lead on the news that Ratko Mladic, wanted for genocide during the Bosnian war in the 1990s, has been arrested in Serbia and that moves to extradite him to The Hague tribunal have begun.

Gen Mladic, the most prominent Bosnian war crimes suspect at large since the arrest of Radovan Karadzic in 2008, faces charges over the massacre of at least 7,500 Bosnian Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica in 1995.

What will his arrest mean for reconciliation in the country and region? And does it open the door to membership of the European Union for Serbia?

Tonight our guests to discuss the matter include Serbian ambassador to the UK, Dr Dejan Popovic, Bosnian writer Zlata Filipovic, whose book Zlata's Diary chronicled the horrors of war in Sarajevo where she lived, and International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) prosecutor Sir Geoffrey Nice.

Also, we have a film from Catrin Nye who has been to the Greater Manchester town of Oldham 10 years after riots between white and Asian communities.

Despite efforts to bring the two communities together over the last decade she finds that many are still leading parallel lives, and some are predicting more conflict ahead.

Afterwards we will be joined in the studio by people from Oldham to discuss the film's findings and what needs to change.

ASK NOT FOR WHOM THE HAGUE CALLS

Knowing words tonight, from Tony Blair, regarding the gratuitous death of untold civilians, brought about by one man's ideological zeal. I wonder if Ratko Mladic will appreciate the irony from the Hague dock?

there is not a problem with racism in Oldham apart from the 0.001% of the population who are dimwits, the real problem is to do with poverty, when people are poor and can't find a job/social housing they don't blame the government, where the responsibility lies ,they blame the latest immigrants..Today this seems to be the Poles.Places like Oldham Burnley and Bradford are lacking jobs and adequate housing and that's all.

This bogsite seems to be very poster-lite these days.

#11 Well it's only going to get worse, as we let in even more people, no houses or jobs for Oldham. But as our governments will not control immigration, we have to put up with it.

#13 Yup Mr Fifth identity, everyone is so sick of repeating themselves, that the UK is falling apart, they've all given up! ; )

    DOING THE JOB THEY LOVE

Apparently, killing people whom you have been taught, from birth, to despise and/or hate, one by one at short range, is a war crime. But killing people whom you have never given a first thought, let alone a second, from an aerial 'platform', in handy batches, many to die slowly buried in rubble - is honourable.

    Beats me.

#16 Beats me Barrie! On the one hand we give out the most foreign aid in the world per head, and on the other we give out enormous sums to bomb foreginers as well. Oh and not forgetting we also have an open door to the world.

We are Mad literally Mad : (

Yet more manipulation of childrens education. Home education anyone?

I watched the Culture show last night, someones written a book about psycopaths, he said a great many of them are in government and big business. Ah that explains a lot then. : (

so now the collection of blogs from NN has become 1 blog as everyone else is sandboxed all over the place. No doubt 'top talent' thought this move from blogs all on page to fractured multiple page clicking ? or is it internal sabotage/ revenge for salford?

  • Comment number 20.

ok we can't mention the lord found guilty nor his comment that he knows of others 'doing the same thing'.

how about every year we get 250,000 more migrants in the uk. which is a city the size of cardiff or bradford . given research shows migrants send at least 50% of their money 'home' is it any wonder the uk is getting poorer as money is not re spent here?

  • Comment number 21.

Well the ´óÏó´«Ã½ are definately shutting the proles up. Just looked at Paul Mason, it's a joke! Difficult to find the comments, people have just given up, I always read comments then you know what the GBP are really thinking.

But hey that's democracy, oh yes but we don't have it in this country.

    JOHNNIE FOREIGNER KILLER-IN-CHIEF

I have learned from the ´óÏó´«Ã½ that Dominator Dave, PERSONALLY, is sending helicopters to Libya.

If Dave's treatment of Alien Nick is anything to go by, these 'assets' will be armed with spitewinder missiles, smartarse bluster-bombs, and cowardycustard stealth weapons.

We are way ahead in the War on Terror.

THE OLD FOREIGN-AID PLOY KATO (#17)

As I have remarked before: Being a 'World Power' confers 'World Statesman' status on the latest incompetent, unprincipled wannabe to reach Prime Ministerial office, AND A SEAT AT THE GAMING TABLE. Brown used to lumber off to Africa and chuck our money around, for his own aggrandisement. Dole-out Dave is doing nothing less - indeed, he's doing MORE!

It is the elite game of GLOBOPOLY. Those leaders, coming to the table, who bring nukes, high GDP, wars and 'victories', AND AID GALORE, accrue kudos and THE ENVY OF OTHER LEADERS. They are winners - EVEN BEFORE THE GAME STARTS.

    The key word is GAME.

A HIERARCHY OF URGING AND POLITICAL THE ART OF OWNERSHIP (#24 link)

On three separate occasions, Uber Obama. 'the most powerful man in the world' (ah yes - but why?) 'urged' David Cameron, symbolically, through doors or to a podium. This hierarchical hand-urging (arm touching, patting) is a RAW POWER THING, and was never so much in evidence as when Nicky met Davy at the start of their ill-fated union.

How poignant that sycophancy embraces the word 'sick', just as democracy comprises mock and crass.

    Nuff sed.

OH NO MR OBORNE - NO! NO! NO! (#24 link)

"There was reason to hope, when David Cameron became Prime Minister, that he would value the British way of doing things. But this week he has seemed to share with New Labour an awed, abject fascination with America. This, I feel, should disappoint us."

Surely you are joking, Mr Oborne. Did you not realise? Westminster endures!

    WE GOT OURSELVES ANOTHER ONE?

why do we domonise the Serbs? When did this hate the Serbs mantra start? Was it when they stood with us against Hitler and the Muslim Croats stood with the fascists and wanted an Axis victory, why did the West bomb Belgrade against UN advice, who said Holbrooke could decide the fate of Balkan states, what does Paddy Ashdown know about anything, what about the ethnic cleansing against the Serb population or is it only Serb brutality we care about. Why don't the leaders of a once proud country like Serbia stand up for itself, it's history rather than the illusionary promises of a failed EU enterprise......
