Rupert Murdoch has said he was "appalled and ashamed" to learn that the phone of Milly Dowler had been hacked by the News of the World while being questioned by MPs alongside his son James this afternoon.
We've also heard Sir Paul Stephenson - the outgoing commissioner of the Met police - give his evidence to the home affairs committee today, and will watching when former NI exec Rebekah Brooks appears shortly.
On tonight's programme we'll be analysing what we learned from today's hearings and will be considering what future the News International empire has.
Don't miss it - 2230, 大象传媒 Two.

again, i completely agree with you. I have heard many stories how these supposed "anti-psychotics" have actually made most people's symptoms worse, and how they have been vastly over-prescribed. However, the same is true of many countries: rather unsurprisingly, often the ones WITH the large pharmaceutical companies and/or the social/political mentality that "Control must be kept!!".
it has been shown that supposedly ADHD students, when in a class led by good teachers, the "symptoms" are reduced. Symptoms being boredom, fidgety, disruptive behaviour.
mmhmmm.
now, i'm not saying that there is no ADHD, nor that the overly sugared, high caffeine diet of many youngsters does't have an impact. Nor am i saying that constant monitoring, and testing to pass stupid parrot-exams that even the *teachers* hate doesn't have an impact. Nor would i deny that having surveillance cameras following them wherever they go, and the new technological tools such as FB that can create whole new levels of stress that previous generations struggle to comprehend - has no impact upon their behaviour.
nor that this is a generation of parents brought up by the Murdochracy doesn't have an impact.
all of these things impact our kids, and much more besides.
me, i just doubt they can all be solved with drugs. Especially when the Big-Pharma companies are so clearly corrupt, and have practices that even most street-dealers would find morally objectionable. Where studies are repeatedly shown to have been distorted, side-effects ignored, and preference lies in "paying off" the victims, because the profits from the sales are so great.
but hey, its mainly poor people who are affected, and the wealthy who profit. So who cares?
[please don't be naive and look at Parliament: that body is aiming to slash the Welfare State in order to pay the costs of bailing out the Banks.]

rubbish - it was a long planned move by the bankers to justify higher returns on their investments in energy production, and the policeman was ACTUALLY a quadruple agent working also for Russia Today, and the Chinese Tourist Agency, alongside being an undercover cop, *and* a keen left-handed, orchestra-level violinist who collects stamps in his spare time ( - and we all know what THAT means!!! :o ). He was also, of course, pretending to be an eco-warrior, and it was the psychedelic drugs these people constantly forced on him, along with the naked rituals in the woods, that caused him to 'Go Native', and break his solemn duty to his paymasters RT to oppose all forms of sustainable, renewable energy in the UK.
the Murdoch Govt was also monitoring the situation, and have allegedly driven the Chinese Tourist Agency Official underground, for sabotaging the Russian operation they had given so much help to. HOWEVER, the case *really* collapsed because the North Koreans had been reading this blog, and believed from your own words that the best way to destroy the UK's economy was through investment in renewables, therefore it had kidnapped the judge and replaced him with a Samsung robot, programmed to quash the case.

i saw these guys live in a performance, and virtually every kid, including many teenagers who would normally be called "problem", sat in awed silence until the end of the set.
and then the magic of music can be as in the film "I am Dina", a film which surely amply demonstrates the meagreness of regarding all childhood ails and traumas as "mental health issues fixable through enforced pharmacology".
i think, in a way, it is that "meagreness" that generally gets me about current society, the easy dismissal of the rights of the individual, and the more-often-than-not self serving missives that come top-down.
"rot at the core spreads outwards", and as we have all seen, (unless we are complete hermits), parts of the core of the UK have become very rotten indeed.
banks need reform - so the NHS is opened to privatisation.
our soldiers are still dying in Afghanistan with little progress in sight - so Libya is attacked as well.
there are too many British in prisons, so the Govt ...privatises prisons, and awards new contracts only to profit-taking companies. And puts penalties up, to increase the prison population.
new investment is needed for renewables for the UK - the Govt hands money to foreign companies to build nukes.
and pupils are bored with a badly designed, over-bureaucratic, under-funded education - so the Govt blames and imprisons parents of skiving kids, and ...privatises schools.
its all of a muchness, and pretty damned depressing. Granted, things are not as bad as in Syria, amongst others, but in this direction... :(

If you truly foul up, then seppuku away and buy atonement. But if it becomes the norm, and merely being accused by scandal automatically leads to positions being considered, it strikes me that the leadership is more concerned with the perceptions of their final legacy than any other achievements (and media with ratings-laden 'scalps'). When the entire officer class has done 'the decent thing' after a fog of war first battle skirmish that turned out poorly, the outcome of the war for those back home seems poorly served.
Of course, Stalin had a different approach that also seems analogous, with a top down topping policy to keep him looking sweet. Again, hardly serving the motherland much.
I have some sympathy for those running large entities across many briefs not knowing the day to day nitty-gritty of what's going on (though the Murdochs and Ms. Brooks seemed very 'above' a heck of a lot - their call business wise; for proven evidence on criminality otherwise).
But in an era where so much care is needed when what is wished for, if you release the mustard gas you can hardly complain if the wind changes and your own eyes start to water.
So once those truly complicit (Dave 'n all) have reaped just desserts (hopefully based on actual guilt), I look forward to previous political leaders (and their party reps) looking at who else was in whose pocket, or steering what (Mr. Campbell or Prescott not called back last night), or other 'leaders' being asked daily if they are going to resign over outbreaks of dubious institutional practice across their own empires.
So, the circus rolls on (with clowns), but what about the bread? Any chance of getting back to other stuff that affects the country?

I hope Cameron announces a full competition commission investigation into the whole of the UK media today, lets get this sorted once and for all.
As for the committee hearing on Tuesday , it did not really do anything for me. I would prefer the Police and judicial enquiry to do the investigations relating to any alleged wrongdoings.

Additional Comment ..
Without some of the Murdoch press joining the Maastricht treaty rebels campaign back in the 1990s and the Save the Pound Campaign , we may well have found ourselves in the economic straitjacket of the Strong Euro Zone. So the Murdoch press has done some good over the years, so I think credit where credit is due and criticism where its proven due.

Who are the we in that statement? And remember, this is an averaged value.
Certain groups within the UK have TFR's that are consistent with the rest of Europe i.e. below replacement level. This means that certain other groups have very high TFR's. Who are these groups, where have they come from and where do they mainly live in the UK? And more importantly what are their group cognitive abilities? TFR's correlate very strongly with cognitive ability btw.
Certain groups are experiencing dysgenesis in their own lands.
It's all cleverly engineered to make nearly everyone depressed except for a chosen few who tend to do rather well during times of recession/depression.

words fail.
i was disappointed to hear Jon Snow on NN a couple of nights ago opining that "everyone agrees cuts are essential", although i never watch CH4 news (due to work schedule), i realised that if the presenter can be so openly biassed in the economic debate, it was unlikely the rest of the show was worth much. Thankfully, the 大象传媒 flagship NN is still holding out for an equitable future plan. Whilst much CAN be cut from the national budget (pork-barrelling projects such as "Academies", and investments in WMD and aircraft carriers Fx), of far more importance is tax-avoidance. As UKUncut point out, absolutely ESSENTIAL public services are being slashed to ribbons, whilst kkkorporates and corrupt politicians sneer at efforts to make them pay their share.
people "voted for this"?? Au contraire, the majority of people in this country voted AGAINST the cuts program, but with the rigged electoral system, were forced to choose between 3 parties who ALL argued that kkkorporates should pay LESS tax, and services should be slashed. The only Party that argued that tax-avoidance should be addressed - the Greens - were deliberately locked out of the 'Leaders Debates'.
this is nothing but a sham-democracy, and the overt corruption and extreme political views of Chancellor Osborne make that abundantly clear.
#43 lizzy: people tend to have more kids when they are poor, for a huge variety of reasons. One thing these reports rarely touch on - the energy/resource demands per capita of those countries where population growth is fastest is usually the lowest - there can be born 50 (? top of the head number) Africans to every American based upon energy/resources usage, for instance.
as for "food shortages", they are based upon continued use of monoculture, and vast "meat" production (think 'Matrix'), as well as a distribution pattern enormously skewed away from a Free market to Global-KKKorporate monopolies. Bear this in mind: even whilst we are constantly being informed that there is not enough food for all, we are also seeing a ballooning in obesity across the 'developed' world.
the famines have another, although related, reason altogether, and are as literally 'man-made' as the obesity epidemic. I'm sick to say it, but the current famines in the Horn of Africa are a direct result of the foreign policies of GWB (yes, really!!), who supported (ordered?) the Ethiopian dictatorship to invade and destroy the nascent Govt in Somalia - because it was Muslim. The vast sums then spent on arms, FROM WESTERN GOVTS, took money away from what ANY democratic Govt would have done - store food for bad times. As well as destroy the semblance of stability in the neighbouring countries. This famine is man-made.
not that policies like this helped:
corruption and inhumanity destroy everything they touch - and the Bush Regime was nothing if not corrupt and inhuman.
when future historians look back at the Bush period, they will probably add up the unnecessary deaths in the 10s of millions.
but by all that's HOLY, those people should receive as much help as we can give them, common Humanity demands it of us.
the numbers of normal people are not YET an insurmountable problem - and do not have to become so - but it requires a greater nobility, a greater awareness, a greater HUMANITY than Humanity has so far largely shown*, to avoid these future crises.
*we need Democracy, to make Govts work in OUR favour and not the powerful. Most people are wonderful, compassionate people who truly CARE about the survival, and quality of life of other people. Most people also do not avoid paying 拢100s of thousands in tax every year.

in actual fact, as i said above, pregnancy rates are strongly correlated to income/wealth, and for quite obvious reasons. Good schools, and good jobs, and birth-rates drop. #59 mV: IT FINALLY HAPPENED!?!?! :o
this has been talked about for years, and has a number of implications:
1. Both China and Iran now regard the US as definitely loosing its grip,
2. Israel is far more likely to attack.
it was expected that such an oil bourse would dramatically weaken the $, which became the Global Reserve Currency when the US elite made the deal with the Saudi Royal Family in the 70s. This has allowed the US to use inflation as a means of Imperial tax! However, compared to the damage the Bush Regime did to the $, combined with the pretty terrible and pure-fantasy-economics pursued ever since of "printing money to devalue the debts", it is hard to see how such a bourse can actually make things worse than what the Americans have done themselves.
its also a very risky step to take, when the ailing Hyperpower is still looking for a 'escape route'/diversion, i hope the Iranian-Chinese-Russian loose alliance is enough of a disincentive.
and having such an alliance will also *hopefully* prevent the lunatic current Israeli leadership from doing something very very stupid - and suicidal - indeed. An illegal Military Occupation and sly ethnic cleansing is one thing, deliberately starting WW3 is quite another.
