I live in a small town in Kent, average yearly rainfall, 24inches or 60cm in new money. This has been measured for over a century. Oh and it was also the hotest place in England, so good evaporation happening.

Population 50 years ago around 10 and half thousand, it's now almost 20 thousand, rainfall is still 24inches/60cm. So who's bright idea was it to build all those new houses, in a drought area, concreting over land that acted as aquifers, the most common way of water supplies around here. I don't understand why Greece is so adamant on staying in the eurozone. 1) The austerity plan has done nothing but accelerate the deterioration of the country's public finance over the past year; Greece's national debt level has ballooned to 160% of GDP, while the economy contracted by 7% in the fourth quarter of 2011 and unemployment rate is now standing at 20%, not to mention the countless protests and street riots that are doing so much damage to the country's social stability. 2) All austerity does is cutting deficits, yet we all know one cannot pay down debts by simply borrowing less. To shrink the national debt level, Greece would have to stop borrowing (run a budget surplus), and has money left over to meet any debt payments that fall due. Without it, the country would have to come back for another bailout every time it has trouble rolling over existing debts.

I suspect the policy makers inside the EU are already aware that Greece will have to default eventually – perhaps the bailout plans are really designed to buy them enough time so that they can put firewalls in place and save the other peripheral countries like Portugal, Spain and Italy from going down with Greece when the inevitable occurs.

We all make mistakes. David Laws did the honourable thing by taking responsibility for his action and resigning his post. Some ministers don't do that and let others carry the can. I say give the man another chance. I have watched his interviews on TV before, he always makes a lot of sense on economics and public policy.

Greece has to try & stay in EZ & keep the Euro as a refloated Drachma would probably be worth less than Wiemar notes and Greece would become a real 3rd world country & would be a EU catastrophe with e.g.:
Pensions would not be paid - public sector would not be paid etc
Doesn't need any gory descriptions.
EU has a responsibility to Greece as a EZ member.
EZ countries need to pay heavily for Greece - there is no alternative.
