I don't see what's hilarious or painful: Gore Vidal may be deaf, old and ornery, but his understanding and insight are unblunted: both of the nature of American politics and of the tendency for news reporters to have agendas.

Poor David is normally dealing with people (politicians) keen to avoid the truth. Here he got Gore Vidal skirting around the fringes of reality.

I am rather appalled at the suggestion that this broadcast was both hilarious and painful.

It was neither.

It showed a once great intellect, somewhat befogged by age and grief, still true nonetheless to the principles which underpinned its life's work and still careless of the opinions and perceptions of others. There is nothing painful in that - nor is there anything funny - unless you have the sensibilities which find amusement in the graceless antics of Ross and Brand.

Gore Vidal is a nut. He always was a nut. He happens to be a left wing nut like Noam Chomsky whom 大象传媒 also interviewed. 大象传媒 presents these people as though the are main stream observers of the American scene when the fact is that of those Americans who even know who they are, most consider them to be elements of what we call the lunatic fringe. That is why 大象传媒 likes them. They serve 大象传媒's own political anti-American agenda.

Night Nurse won 2 champion hurdles and 32 races in all, nearly as many as Desert Orchid (34). He was a great horse with lop ears, great courage and a tremendous will to win (like Dessie).

I saw Dessie in the flesh at Fairyhouse and at Down Royal, where I actually touched his snout. Now, there's real gods for you.

There is absolutely nothing anti-American about Gore Vidal, Noam Chomsky, or the 大象传媒.

Chomsky often criticizes US government and US big business, but you must distinguish between -a- US government and -the- US government. Americans *must* be able to criticize our own government without having our patriotism attacked, because without the freedom to criticize our government we would have precious little to be patriotic about.

But back to Gore Vidal --

If you can imagine a number of teenagers asking an adult about relationships, getting a cogent but politely indirect reply, and replying with too-graphic specifying questions -- and then laughing at the funny reaction they get -- that's basically what happened here.

The two people Obama reminds us most strongly of are Martin Luther King and J. F. Kennedy: and that really worries us. But there is a taboo in America about discussing such a possibility too directly, and Gore Vidal is not the only one on television who has backed off when pressed.

And it just doesn't seem right to make a blanket accusation against conservatives when the vast majority of conservatives are good patriotic people.

No, I don't see the humor.
