The Road
Bleak but brilliant end-of-the world story, with moody Viggo Mortensen as a single dad caring for his son in a post-apocalyptic world. It's a weepy for blokes, a touchy feely sci-fi that'll chill your bones.
4 stars.

It's Complicated
Meryl Streep grins inanely in this smug tale of posh old people with relationship issues. It's as much about their nice houses and outfits as their emotions but luckily it's kinda funny too.
3 stars.

Sex 'n' Drugs 'n' Rock 'n' Roll
The true story of legendary 70s cockney rocker Ian Dury, an influence Robbie Williams and Mike Skinner amongst others. Andy Serkis is awesome and the whole film's full of punky energy and dirty gags. But if you don't care about the tunes, it's a real hard sell.

Friday 8th January, 8:20pm, ´óÏó´«Ã½3

Steven Spielberg directs this Orson Wells classic as Tom Cruise tries to save the world and his family from aliens, despite the fact that the word alien is never used in the film. It's another entertaining Speilberg, Cruise collaboration which isn't anywhere near as confusing as Minority Report.

Film Fact: While filming some underwater scenes the prankster that is Steven Spielberg played the theme music from Jaws through underwater speakers to scare Tom Curise & Dakota Fanning.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Saturday 9th January, 4:50pm, ITV1

This Tim Burton version might not be quite as good as the original, it's lacking the songs for a start, but Johnny Depp is watchable despite his slightly weird voice.Ìý

Film Fact: They used over 927,000 litres of fake chocolate for the chocolate river scenes and got through 110,00 plastic chocolates bars in the making of the film.

Forrest Gump
Sunday 10 January, 10:00pm, Channel 4

Just the 6 Oscar wins for this one then. Tom Hanks shows us why he's one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood in this Robert (Back To The Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit & The Polar Express) Zemeckis masterpiece. It's like The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button... just in the right order. I bet you'll find yourself saying "stupid is as stupid does" and "life is like a box of chocolates" on Monday morning.

Film Fact: Every still picture of Forrest in the film shows Tom Hanks with his eyes closed, and the bench which he sits on during the film is now in a museum in Georgia.
