IRFS Weeknotes #125
Welcome to weeknotes #125! As a couple of projects come to a natural break we've had time this week to do a few things a bit out-of-the-ordinary.
Libby and Chris Newell have been following up their VistaTV workshop by taking some of the ideas the team generated and working up a few quick prototypes. Dan, Andrew W and Ant were drafted in to help and following a productive couple of days have created a variation of the classic that reflects the popularity of a programme. The team have now started to experiment with some of the other ideas from the workshop.
Andrew N, Pete, Matt and I were busy finishing up our Radiophonics Workshop prototype in time to give the attendees of the a sneak peak. We've built some demos that use the Web Audio API (currently being specified by the W3C Audio Group of which Olivier is the chair) to recreate some early analogue sounds. I gave the presentation just before lunch on Sunday and it was well received. We got some great feedback in particular from Radiophonic Workshop member who also gave a humorous, informative and anecdote-laden keynote at the start of the day.
Vicky and Michael Sparks have been busy planning a "Playful Internet of Things Futures" event to take place in Salford later in the year. We also welcomed Jasmine Cox to the team who is joining us for a couple of months to work on some product design for our projects.
Chris Needham and Barbara are getting ready for an upcoming presentation at the in Istanbul. They'll be showing some prototype TV authentication systems developed as part of our Egbox project and the collaborative FI-Content work.
It was a busy week for public appearances as Yves gave a talk at the about various uses of semantic web technologies at the ´óÏó´«Ã½ with colleague and friend-of-the team Dave Rogers. Meanwhile Sean presented our work-in-progress R&D website at an R&D all-staff event.
Some of the team including Chris Finch, Tristan, Theo and Pete attended a ´óÏó´«Ã½ event at Facebook HQ. Chris describes it as "a great day with loads of ideas", he pitched an idea with Liz from R&D's North Lab and they're waiting to hear if they've made it through to the "build studio".
Finally, Libby shares with us some talks she found particularly interesting at the :
- by Ted Dunning
- John Sheridan and Jeni Tennison on
- The talk by Tom Hebbert
