More chins than shots?

nigel_adderley.gif BERLIN - I was commentating on the game for Five Live last night.
And though the samba beat was throbbing under the Brandenburg Gate into the early hours - the mood among the Brazilian fans suggested they felt short-changed by the World Champions.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was terrific and Kaka's goal was authentically Brazilian.
But when your centre-forward has more chins that attempts on goal then that is simply not good enough for discerning supporters who demand style as well as success.

There were also plenty of fairly relieved Croatians in the city, grateful that their team had a go and were not embarrassed.

But they could also have been celebrating a famous draw had they shown a bit more ambition. Brazil's extravagant training sessions don't look quite so impressive when they do not turn it on.

Maybe they treat the groups stage as their pre-tournament warm-up - and maybe that's why everybody should be worried...

Hilarious.

This "RONALDO IS A FATTY" bandwagon that everybody seems to be jumping on in the hope of getting a cheap laugh has grown incredibly tiresome.

Your final paragraph is right. Brazil does treat the group stage as a warm-up.

If I wasn't watching the pictures when I had the TV on I could have sworn Brazil were winning 12-0 or something, does Motson have a Grandma from there or something?

When they weren't fawning over the team in yellow, I couldn't hear anything else except chuckling from the two commentators. I'm not sure what they found funny, because it certainly wasn't any of the jokes they told

Completely agree with joe jackson on the 大象传媒's fawning over Brazil. Lawro in particular was beginning to turn my stomach. Of course they're talented, but that doesn't mean they can't be a bit shite sometimes, or that commentators and pundits should be unwilling to say so.

Croatia ran them close, but both teams were unimpressive and Brazil, heaped with praise and hype, remain clearly beatable. Whether England can raise their game enough is questionable, but others, particularly Argentina, must really fancy their chances against them.

using their pre-match 'training session' for a kickabout so they can show off playing keepy-uppy for the thousands of worshippers smacks of over-confidence. I hope their come-uppance beckons, but unless Australia can play out of their skins, we'll have to wait a while.

Thankfully, John Helm is doing a fine job from Germany. And speaking of Ronaldo, his name has never been synonymous with fitness - imagine if it did.

Downright lethargic is the best way I can describe Ronaldo's performance. What of Adriano? he looks like a mere shell of the dynamo we have seen in the last two years. Robinho should be starting.

It was with great disappointment that I watched Brazil forwards moving like old men and I just can't understand why Parreira did not put Robinho to start the second half as he certainly deployed a lot of fluidity in the attack, though too late. After the episode of Ronaldo's blisters, I won't be surprised if one finds out that Ronaldo was replaced that late because of commercial pressure from Nike which have a lot of explanation to give about their boots...

Ronaldo, overweight or not he just wasn't bothered. Adriano was 'trying' but was equally awful.

Brazil need reminding that Joga Bonito is for posers and wins nothing.

I was once a fan of the 大象传媒's football coverage but now i just find it embarrassing. It's like watching The Office.

What a load of tripe.
Brazil are not as good at the back apart from Carlos.
All you have to do is long ball em and you've got a chance.
Croatia just needed the striker to play deep, like the goal hanging 5+ Ronaldo & Co, counter atack and I think you really have a chance against them.
Brazil ARE NOT UNBEATABLE!

The Brazilians need to concentrate on the next match and on their opponent. If they do that they can beat anybody without Ronaldo. But I kind of get the impression that their minds reached the final already.

Brazil may not be unbeatable, but at least it looks like they can play with a 9-man squad and still win all the games in their group. Croatia was supposed to be the hardest one, go figure. People tend to write off Ronaldo and then he just appears to net the ball, overweight as he is. I wish any of the other teams would beat Brazil but it will take more than wishful thinking.
