Trini-party shenanigans

MartinDORTMUND - After our technological problems with 大象传媒 World this morning, we rightly began to focus on the football.

Check out the video
We settled on the main square in Dortmund to watch the opening game but after two hours baking under the harsh evening Nordrhein-Westfallen sun with only half a view of the big screen - both Costa Rica goals were offside, by the way, according to a better-placed German informant - we decided to move on.

The stadium in Dortmund is twinned with an exhibition cente, the Westfallenhalle, and tonight they were hosting a tribute to their visitors from Trinidad & Tobago.

Although mainly lost on us, acts like are the business in the Caribbean and we were treated to a feast of music and dance - the Soca that Trinidad's Soca Warriors are indebted to.

I wasn't expecting much to be honest but once Mr Winchester had been so kind to spare a few minutes for a 大象传媒 World Cup blog chat (video to come soon) I was sold on the whole Caribbean vibe.

There were dancers with massive floral appendages, some painted blue with devils' horns and a throng, just letting it all hang out to the .

Sadly it all had to come to an end after a steel band had hammered out their repertoire and we headed back to the camper, only to be offered a night's supply of booze by some Swedes (members of band called ) who disputed my claim that Saturday's match against Trinidad and Tobago will end in a draw.

I'm off back to their caravan to argue my case, but I'm sure the Carribbean's finest will put up as good a show as they did this evening.

Germany Vs Costa Rica a cracker

World Cup Blog...embassingly, butt clenchingly dull...

...after two hours baking under the harsh westfallen sun....(RETCH)....there were dancers with massive floral appendages...(GAG).....

Lamen disputed my claim that sweden will draw in a contest called soccer with trinidad and tobaggo. This as i pointed out is in line with all statistically knowledge we have and would take a huge polarization of the standard deviation patterns to allow any other scenerio...
With this quick salvo he was literall stunned although i have no idea why he thinks i will be tossing things...it is simply the wrong adjective...Well gang as the sun slowly speads its phoenix over the rugged beauty of munich i end my blog for the evening...

Dearest 大象传媒 bloggers, please watch your typos. Bloggers ought to have the same editorial standards as all other forms of print media at the 大象传媒.

Two points, for instance:

It's "Shurwayne" (u not e) and "Caribbean" (one r).

To be fair, stacy-marie, our dynamic duo were probably still reliving the fun they had at the event to be too concerned about spelling. No doubt they will be aching from all the wining they did to the soca. I suppose there's one saving grace that they remembered to put capital letters for the names.

I'm with Tam in wanting to see Ricco. Is he camera shy and does he really look like his caricature?

Thanks for that Tam and feralmoggy.

First I'll have to educate Fletch in the technicalities of pressing the red button on the camera, then I'm sure you'll see plenty of me and will wish you'd never asked!

Don't they spell it both ways? Carribbean in some parts of the world, Caribbean in others? The whole ITV Soca pronounciation thing is hilarious. I thought commentators in the United States were bad. I miss Brian Moore.

Re: Fox's comment. I know exactly what you mean. The word has one 'c' so it has to be an 'oh' sound. If it was a deliberate pun it might be alright but I think they're in a happy little media bubble.

Before the match today Jim Rosenthal made a comment about the Trinidadians listening to reggae. The presenters and commentators don't seem to be watching their own introductory features about the teams. Everyone else is up to speed and we're not even getting paid for it.

US Fan's View of English World Cup Performance in first match:

Poor. The midfield had poor movement off the ball. It was all pass and stand around. Forwards played with passion and Joe Cole had a great 2nd half until he ran out of gas. Paul impressed in goal and the back 4 did as expected defensively. Would have liked to see A.Cole be more aggresive going forward. Way too much long ball nonsense through the center of the park...center-halves and midfield very poor going forward. The players all play high tempo, quick passing, move the ball up the park, passing club football (Chelsea, ManUtd,Liverpool) why the change for the National team?
I expect more from this central midfield pair which I consider to be the best in the World. It is not an issue of who pushes forward and who holds....the wrong methodology. Either Steve or Frank needs to decide who is going to be the engine of the English side and dictate the pace of the game. No more nonsense of learning to play nice together. One of the two needs to step up and say I'm the engine, it goes through me, and the captain's armband belongs to me. Both Steve and Frank are trying to accomidate each other when they should just be playing by instinct. Steve, are you ready to step up? It's the only way England are going to lift the cup.
Tactics and Substitutes were fine given how the game against Paraguay progressed...pundits please!?!? With this midfield you don't need Rooney...case in point, Chelsea last 2 years, Man United 99, France 98....midfields defined the success these teams achieved.
Unless this midfield plays to its potential England do not have a chance, even with the "Big Man".

Fox, there are no alternative spellings for "Caribbean." The double 'r' error serves only to seriously annoy us ;s
