News: 03-12-2002 Â Alan Holiday Prize Annoys Councillor
bbc.co.uk got in the papers this week....
The Telegraph on Monday and the Daily Mirror on Tuesday ran articles about our prize of a holiday for two on the Norfolk Riviera (Hunstanton). And why not? It's a great prize. Sadly Charlse Joyce, a Norfolk County councillor, doesn't see it that way. He thinks the Partridge mythology is bad for the image of the area. The Mirror claims Joyce has invited Partridge to visit the area. But wait a minute, is he confusing a fictional TV character with real life? Surely only a 'backwater yokel' would make such a gaff.

News: 20-11-2002 Â Canned Laughter Controversy
Armando Iannucci Responds.
The I'm Alan Partridge producer and co-writer apologised for any loss of enjoyment caused by the laughter track on the new series, when he appeared on Nicky Campbell's show.
'It's not canned laughter. We recorded it in front of a studio audience. If anything, I tried to tone it down. If Steve blows his nose there is a round of applause. I can't say, "Can you not laugh at this?" or "Can you laugh a little bit less at that?" The first series also had the laughter as well.'
Iannucci identified comparisons with , which was shown prior to , and pointed out their differences.
'If we wanted to make The Office we would have made another series of The Office but it's a different world. The Office is very real whereas Alan is very grotesque - Steve calls him uber-real. He is not someone we all know and can identify with in the same way you can with David Brent.'
'Maybe following on from The Office people were expecting more of the same. But there is a laughter track on , and wasn't spoiled by the intrusive inclusion of a laughter track.'

'It was a very drunken night. We were in a posh converted castle and went down in the dungeon, where there was a bar. There was a woman who asked Liam 'Would you get up and sing for us?' He wouldn't but he told me to get up and sing, so I did Wind Beneath My Wings.'
'The next thing I remember was waking up on top of the bed with him. I've felt a bit funny about it ever since.'
