Robert PopperRobert Popper
Robert Popper met Look Around You co-star Peter Serafinowicz when they worked on 1998's You Are Here, co-written by Popper along with Mark Freeland, Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

He went on to write and direct the pilot for Counting the Hours starring Serafinowicz, Jessica Stevenson and Rowland Rivron. This was followed by 2001's Do You Remember. This collaboration, again with Peter Serafinowicz, led to Calcium, a twenty-minute film which played to a 400-strong audience at the Metro Cinema in Soho, attracted the attention of numerous production companies and won the 2001 Portobello Film Festival award.

Eight months later, the 大象传媒 commissioned a series of eight ten-minute programmes from the duo called Look Around You. Popper and Serafinowicz wrote, produced, starred in and even composed and performed the music (under the name 'Gelg') for the show.

All this was going on whilst Popper was working as a Commissioning Editor for Entertainment and Comedy at Channel 4. He'd previously worked for Granada. Upon leaving C4 in 2003, his commissioning credits included Bo Selecta, Black Books, Spaced and Bremner, Bird and Fortune. He also commissioned three series of Comedy Lab whilst at the channel.

The first series of Look Around You was critically acclaimed and was nominated for a BAFTA and for the Best New Comedy gong at the 2003 British Comedy Awards. Popper went on to write the short film Hello Friend with Graham Linehan in 2003.

In 2005 Robert and Peter returned to our screens with a second series of Look Around You, having resigned his 'day job' with Channel 4. Made up of six half-hour shows, it ressembled an early 80s 'Tommorow's World' and, besides Robert and Peter, featured Josie D'Arby and Olivia Colman as presenters.

Robert Popper is a regular contributor to Jack Magazine and the US magazine Methicamay. It is rumoured he also writes the Timewaster Letters under the pen name Robin Cooper.
