This evening, the orchestra welcomes back two tremendous young British musicians whose previous appearances have helped build their international reputations, as Ben Gernon conducts Benjamin Grosvenor in Saint-Sa毛ns鈥檚 irresistible Second Piano Concerto. Also tonight, musical revolution takes a contentious turn with Beethoven鈥檚 Third Symphony, the 鈥楨roica鈥�. The composer鈥檚 inspiration for this extraordinary work was Napoleon, though he later removed the dedication in fury. The evening ends with the rich, beautiful impressionism of Debussy鈥檚 La mer.
