About This Event

In 2000 Sir John Eliot Gardiner, the Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists performed all of Bach鈥檚 surviving church cantatas in an unprecedented year-long musical pilgrimage. They return to these astonishing musical statements of faith, continuing our series of concerts marking the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.

Hear two of Bach鈥檚 Lutheran cantatas 鈥� including Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott, itself composed for a Reformation-anniversary celebration 鈥� alongside psalm-settings by his German musical forebear Heinrich Sch眉tz, alive with dance rhythms and vivid instrumental textures.
