On a rare visit to the UK for ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio 2's ‘Friday Night Is Music Night’, the master interpreter of the Great American Songbook, Michael Feinstein, celebrates 'Bing Crosby and the Crooners' with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Concert Orchestra conducted by Broadway's Larry Blank. Michael's special guests include jazz singer Clare Teal and Strictly Come Dancing's Lance Ellington.
Bing Crosby remains one of the biggest stars of the 20th century having sold over a billion records. He was the first multi-media star of them all, working on radio, in films and on television. Crosby was the recording star who Frank Sinatra idolised. He was a major movie star and Oscar winning actor, remaining among the top ten box office movie stars for fifteen years. He is estimated to have sold 1,077,900,000 movie tickets, securing his place as third in the top selling movie stars of all time behind Clark Gable and John Wayne. Among his films, Going My Way, The Bells of St Mary’s and - with Bob Hope and Dorothy Lamour - unforgettable 'Road To … ' films. But he is most remembered as a sensational singer and recording star. Crosby dominated American radio, chalking up an astonishing 396 chart singles and releasing countless albums. His 41 number one hits include the best-selling Christmas single of all time, 'White Christmas.
