Mike
Healey talks about his work process.
"Having
arrived at the embryo of an idea and made a preliminary sketch of
things, at this stage a quite vague formation with which to work,
I will begin the process of evaluating the relationships between
its elements, looking for contrasts of warm and cool colours, colours
that work well for the best effect, soft and hard edges etc.

I will
need to find the rhythm and energy in the composition, allowing
my imagination to scan the structure.
I will
be looking for balance of the negative and positive spaces, lines,
colour, shape and texture, adding to and taking away, changing and
manipulating until I recognise the work achieving the balance I
am seeking.

Leaving
the work at this stage for a week or so, I will then take a fresh
look and make final adjustments before the work can be considered
for general viewing."
