Around
20 brand new paintings will be on show at Leominster Community Centre
as part of the major new annual visual arts event.
Although
MacCarthy had already been invited by the Community Centre to show
some of his work there, the profile given to the exhibition by Herefordshire
Art spurred the painter into treating it as a big exhibition of
completely fresh work.
In
turn, the Community Centre has made improvements to its exhibition
space which is part of the reception area there.
"I鈥檓
really pleased to be exhibiting in the Community Centre because
people who are not expecting to see art will catch sight of it,"
MacCarthy said.
An
event like Herefordshire Art Week can bring art into the community
and the community in to see art.
The
exhibition at Leominster Community Centre has a very different feel
from a commercial show in a gallery, because even though people
will be able to buy some of them, I can show the paintings simply
for the sake of showing them - and I like that."
MacCarthy
has been painting full-time since 1983 and moved to Herefordshire
with his wife and two children 26 years ago.
