Outside the German Air Force Camp we were occupying prior to "sorting out" the Japanese, ws an attractive white enamelled garden bench. I thought we could use it to sit on during our return to Mons in Belgium, via Bonn, where we stayed the night. I had it in mind to sell the bench to the couple who lived next to our camp. At Bonn I was instructed to report to the Signals Officer, and he was away for the weekend, so the truck went without me. The Military Police at the town barracks thought the bench would be usesful for visitors waiting for attention so they took possession of it. When I enquired where the bench was they said some "so and so" had pinched it and it was now somewhere in Germany!
