Support for Operations Neptune and Turnabout

I was personal secretary to Admiral Sir Rudolph Burmester of HMS Lucifer operating in the English Channel in 1944. I took shorthand for the shipyard Controller involved with preparations for operation Neptune and Turnabout. I worked in a basement with whitewashed windows and a typewriter which was locked up every night. All carbons were burnt as a security precaution, and I did not mix with others in the canteen, due to the highly confidential nature of our work. Documents were marked 鈥淭oo Secret鈥 rather than 鈥淭op Secret鈥.

Later, I became secretary to Admiral Sir Hugh Binney who became Governor of Tasmania (1945-51).
