A Broken nose on Liberation Day
Miss Daphne Oliver
Edited transcript of a taped interview
On Liberation Day, I went into town, well and truly, and I had a broken nose over it. You see, what happened was this, the lady and gentlemen that were looking after the Bailiff, they said we鈥檙e going to Town this evening, would you like to come, because the boat is coming in and is going to go along side Woolworths. I naturally said yes, and Miss Randell said you鈥檇 better go, you can鈥檛 say your not going, keep refusing, they won鈥檛 ask you again. So we went. We stood on the Pier Steps, and they threw this so-called piece of soap which like was a bit of stone, ever so jarring, it was black, it was green, and it caught me on the nose and I had a broken nose.
