My lasting Memory of World War II is……passed on by my grandfather of Liverpool Road Irlam, who after being badly burned during an accident at Irlam Steelworks in late 1940. Whilst in Salford Royal Hospital during the blitz of Salford, he was blown out of bed during the carnage and confusion. He was transferred to Winwick Hospital Warrington — but it was over a month after Christmas before his wife and family were notified that he was alive and recovering.
