Poem sent to Lance Sgts Carswell mother in 1942 found after his death.

This poem was sent to London and was read at the Military Tattoo at Earls Court July 1997, in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.

Members of my family and I had tickets to attend, it was a very moving experience.

Poem written by William Cecil Carswell. MM

In a field all full of shell holes
By a broken shattered town
Were the boys who manned the Field guns
Till the evening sun went down

They were men who fought for freedom
Fought for things they knew were right
And they鈥檒l never be forgotten
Friends will carry on the fight

Many men we鈥檝e left behind us
Buried 鈥榥eath those hills of snow
Many things left to remind us
Of those days not long ago
