My dad was 15 years old and very small for his age. He was a messenger boy who rode around on his bike delivering messages. One evening a building was bombed badly. There were people in the building (two ladies). There was a small hole in the debris and my dad was asked to go down to see if he could get to the two ladies. He climbed down, being careful not to cause loose bricks to be disturbed. Unfortunately the two ladies were dead. My dad went to London and collected a citation from King George VI.
