Returning home after almost four years in the Far East on the troopship 鈥楢thlone Castle鈥 we arrived at Southampton on 11th November 1945.
Steaming up the Solent the ship鈥檚 tannoy was relaying the Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph. Just as the announcer was saying 鈥淭he King now steps forward to lay his wreath鈥 the ship came to rest mid channel and the anchor let down. There was a tremendous rattle of the anchor chain which caused quite a laugh as some wag shouted 鈥淗e鈥檚 dropped it鈥!
