This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Alan Jeffery CSV from Kent County Library Services on behalf of Patricia Philp and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

Born in Edinburgh, I spent most of my life as a Care Assistant. I remember very little about the war but very clearly standing on Waverley Station, Edinburgh to welcome my uncle back from Bangkok where he had been a prisoner of war for four years. I clearly think back to how very tall and thin he appeared and wore khaki shorts and Burma hat.
