This story was written and submitted to the 大象传媒 Peoples war by WJ McCullough

On the 21st June 1944 we , the London Irish, were attacking a village near Lake Trasamena in Italy. I was breaking through a hedge when I was wounded in the right shoulder. I carried on with the intention of throwing a grenade into the upstairs window but then I woke up looking at the sky. I could hear the battle going on and I realised that I had been hit in the head and on the left arm muscle. When I put my finger in the hole in my head I pictured a wooden cross being stuck up where I was lying.
Eventually I was picked up.
