My grandparents came from Sunderland and my grandmother used to take us into Sunderland a lot.

One day we were walking to the station to get the train to Willington and the air raid sirens went off and a big bomb hit the station as we were walking towards it.
My eardrums were bursting, come to think of it I have had bad ears ever since.

I don鈥檛 think there was anyone killed. We had to run like mad to catch the last bus to Durham. I can remember that the buses had wooden slats down the sides that they could turn on their sides to get more people in.

I was really frightened when the bomb hit because I have never been so close to anything like that before but it didn鈥檛 stop me watching the dog fights at home.
