Aged 9 we had a Morrison Shelter which we slept in each night because of the doodlebugs. The windows were felted which was hooked up in the day for light. The shelter probably wasn鈥檛 of much use because it was on a 4 foot suspended floor. The cat forced the flap open during the night and it was very cold so my mother got up to close it and I was suddenly woken by her screaming. She had trodden on a dead rat.
