As told by Stella Wright
I was in the Land Army, stationed at Manston. There were a lot of W.A.A.F.s: we had the impression that thye looked down on us. We had to take the cows out to the meadow: when the W.A.A.F.s came out, that's when we took the cows out. I enjoyed milking the cows. There was a cat, and we used to squirt milk at it and it would catch it in its mouth. On one farm we milked by hand, on another with a milking machine. It was a lovely, healthy life. At the electric farm, they told me, "You'll be stripping."
I wondered what they were on about. What it was, they couldn't take all of the milk from the cow with the machine and the last of it had to be taken by hand: that was the stripping. Wages were very low.
