Newham Library Service joined the People's War project over the Summer 2003.

The aim of this project is to encourage ICT usage amongst Newham's elderly population.
In Newham there is a strong reliance on oral tradition amongst the Elderly. This was an opportunity to help people share their stories and lay down their histories for future generations to use and value.

Newham is a London borough in the East End of London. The River Thames estuary begins here and the local economy relied on the river for many years. Newham took several direct hits in the war including one of the public libraries - Canning Town.

Newham Library Service is providing access points for individuals who wish to share their WW2 story with the rest of the nation.
