ONE HECTIC NIGHT (By Norris Trout – My Driver)
I shall never forget the night our site was dive-bombed
Twas a happening that I hope no more will see
Though some may say they liked that bit of action
All it did was put the fear of God in me
Hostile planes were overhead the gong sounded
All morning teams were very much alive
When Jerry after hovering round our waddy
Came down with engines roaring in a dive
There was a whistling of bombs then loud explosions
At that moment life or death walked hand in hand
All personnel lay flat upon their stomachs
With their noses buried in the sand
There was only one left standing that was Plodder
He was lucky that this time his life was spared
And although he did his duty as a soldier
I’ll bet him fifty ackers he was scared
I was underneath Joe Walker's 3 ton lorry
An action I'd accomplished right sharp
And I seemed to hear St Peter tell an angel
To go in heaven's stores and draw my harp
In conclusion in one mind were all united
At dive-bombing we all wish to draw the line
But to Jerry this won't make a lot of difference
You expect these dirty tricks from dirty swine
