Early in the war while visiting friends in Kirkstall Leeds ; When an air raid started. Eventualy my father decided we must set off for to Farnley [3 miles away] on foot. On the way ant-aircraft guns opened up on german raiders above. Shrapnel rained down and peppered an advertising hoarding the other side of the road We cowered down behind a wall on the other side of the road. we would have been killed or badly hurt if we had been any closer to the falling hot metal At this time I was 9 years old and my sisters 11 and 3 years.
