I was 7yrs old when war broke out, living with my family in a village called Kemsing, near Sevenoaks in Kent.We watched the Battle of Britain take place above us,& my brother & sister & me used to pick up bits of shrapnel, bullets, & sometimes clothing & personal articles that fell from planes. Once I found a boot with a foot still in it.My sister & I were machine gunned by a German plane on our way to school one day, a man was passing on a bycicle, he jumped off, threw us in a ditch & protected us, then afterwards got back on his bike & cycled off, we never knew who he was.Next door lived a foreigner (german?),he signalled to planes at night with a torch, my Father reported him, the Police came & took him away.We had a little dog called Blondie, when the siren went my Mother would come out of the back door & call -Blonnyonnyonny, the dog would hear & race home, with us in hot pursuit.I had 2 older brothers & a sister who all fought in the war, they all came home again!
