The next part of my Service takes us to 1654 Conversion Unit at Wigsley. This where I met my Pilot Sgt N Glahome and his crew for the first time. We arrived on the 9th Dec 1941. Not a moment was lost before we started our flying training on Manchester twin engined Bombers and lasted until 19th Dec 1941. Practice take-off and landings were endless. Then came the OK to change to the four engined Lancasters. that is when the bond between Pilot and Flight Engineer was formed. The take-off and landing was so prescise that you came to know each others movements and thoughts. The flicker of a guage a slightest change in engine sound registered with both of us instantly. When you are useing a total power of 6,600 hp this was, has it had to be. On the 30th Dec 1941 we were told that we were going to join a Bomber Squadron.
