Marion Martel (née Mollet) interviewed by Becky Kendall of Radio Guernsey at the Guernsey Museum March 2005, transcribed and edited from CD by John David Nov 17th 2005
I………. You were here during the initial air raids, and I wanted to ask you about that. They lasted fifteen minutes or so, is that right?
I was in Town, in the Bordage, and they called us across…
I………. you were very close
I was trying to deliver my sister a letter from her boy friend, and they covered us with great big sheets of leather, because it was a shoe repairer place. They had a car, because they took us with them to the Vrangue, that’s opposite where the new Post office is, and they managed to get in touch with — because we didn’t have a phone — I suppose it was Miss Best, eh, from the shop, they phoned the shop at the end of the road, Bailiff’s Cross, it was, and let my parents know, and they took me home, me and my friend home.
I………. Do you know of people who were injured?
My friend’s father died, Mr Marquis, he was killed
