I was born in Guernsey Nov. 1923
We evacuated in June 1940, eventually settling in N. Devon, My Father’s Birthplace.
When I was 17, I advanced my age and joined the A.T.S. After initial training at Aldermaston I was posted to Huddersfield, attached to the Royal Corps of Signals until late 43
Postings to Devon and the East Coast followed after which it was overseas. To Europe, where I was based in Brussels, and I transferres to the Provost Corps (Military Police)
When the war in Europe ended, we were sent to Germany as we were needed for special police duties — including the War Crimes Trials, and civilian interment camps, where we held several German and other (V.I.P)? personnel including Lord Haw-Haw’s widow, among many others. Our duties in Germany were many, and varied, meeting and working with interesting people such as, Mr Albert Pierrepoint the official hangman.
A True Gentleman!
My last posting in Germany was at a Political Prison C.I.S.D.I.C. W.E.A (Combined Services Interrogation Centre)
I enjoyed my Military Service with the British Army.
And was proud to represent my Island
E. R. Bichard (Mrs)
