This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Dianne Burtrand of Chelmsford Library on behalf of Betty Cutmore and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions.

Betty鈥檚 brother Frederick was on the corvettes taking convoys to Gibraltar and America from 1940 onwards. The Family heard no news for three months and were anxious to know that he was OK. One day the postman came with a telegram. Betty鈥檚 mother was understandably very worried, but Betty said she had a feeling her brother would come home. The postman said the telegram was good news- Frederick was in hospital in Ireland, not seriously hurt.
