My sister Elle in front of our shop

My mum owned several shops just before the war which she sold for the sake of her health before moving to Ripley in 1939. One of the shops is in the picture below and shows my youngest sister Elle sitting on the van with my Mum, Myra Smith. In the shop there were cubicles where you could sit to eat ice creams fruit ,sweets, cigarettes and upstairs was a place you could eat peas and pies and sandwiches. The shop was open both day and evening and people came rather like they would to a bar today.
