TWILIGHT OF A PROPHET BY Norris Trout
To comrades in the land of wog
From one whose fame has passed
This effort is my epilogue
T'will be my very last
I've finished now I've had my day
My exodus draws near
I write this poem to portray
The twilight of a seer
Hence forward I shall know no peace
How dearly will I pay
For prophesying war would end
The seventeenth of May
My word was good at 鈥淧ollock鈥
And from "Suez" to 鈥淭obruk鈥
But now I've dropped a rollock
To be sure I've come unstuck
Between me and my fellow mates
A barrier will form
I'll be a victim of their hates
Their rancour and their scorn
But judgement I will not decline
Sound justice will I face
The punishment to fit the crime
Is "sent home in disgrace"
So back I'll go with heavy heart
MY head hung low in shame
And I promise you ere I depart
I'll not come back again.
