I was the youngest of 5 brothers during the war in Swansea. There was a time when there was bombing 3 nights on the trot by the Luftwaffe, over the city shopping centre.
As the raid began, we ran down to the Anderson shelter. It was snowing. We heard a loud 'Boom!' and thought it was the incendiary bombs exploding above us. On the All Clear, we came out to see St Mary's Church on fire. The bell had been hit and come down. What we thought was a bomb blast, was in fact the last sound of the bell as it was blown down.
