for five yrs now i have been trying to find out about my dad i have information that he was reported missing on 17 june1943 for 5yrs no one as been able to tell me what ship he was on he was 994 operating coy royal engineers ss yoma keeps cropping up i would love to hear from any one who any information on this

Message 1 - SS Yoma

This ship was bound for Alexandria when she was sunk by a torpedo from U-81 on 17th June 1943. Please see my posting on the sinking of the Yoma for further details.Chief Officer Mr A Olding's report on the sinking of the Yoma is in the Public Record Office. The sinking is also mentioned in the war diary of 1010 Docks Operating Company, which is also at the PRO. It mentions that Phillipville personnel were on board. 87 ORs missing. Hope this helps.
