My father volunteered for the Royal Navy in 1941 (please refer to earlier story BSA Birmingham to Washington). After his initial training at HMS Collingwood and HMS Victory he joined the HMS Boxer on Atlantic Convoys.He went though the Panama Canal and at the end of 1942 he travelled across America by train where he was assigned to HMS Saker, Washington and there he worked at The White House He then joined HMS Rajah and went out to Ceylon and the Pacific.
