Our school was evacuated to Hatchlands East Clandon, lent to us by the owner. Our school was St Anne's College Sanderstead, now pulled down. We were there for a couple of years. We were quite happy. My parents were able to stay in the chauffer's cottage and my father used to take the nuns' washing back to St Anne's where it had to be specially looked after. When things improved the school reopened in Sanderstead until the flying bomb time. Then we were evacuated to Hydropathic hotel in Dunblane in perthshire until after the E day when we went home. We had a lovely time up there - the Nuns used to take us to the Trossachs and other lovely walks and we were always worried about the V1s and V2s.
