Doreen and her family were evacuated during the Second World War(1939). The rest of the family were seperated except for Mum, Dad, my brother, my sister, and myself.
We went to live in Stowe Market for a while but eventually Dad brought us all back to London.
The bombing in London began to get much worse so we were seperated again. My Mother, brother, and sister were evacuated to Lancashire, whilst I was sent to North Wales, we would have liked to stay together, but there wasn't enough room for us to do this.
Dad stayed behind in London, as he worked on the railway lines .He never enlisted.
The family I stayed with were what we would call "well-to-do", which meant they were well off financially.
They had two daughters, who were away at boarding school most of the time.
I was chosen because of the similarity in age to her daughters.
Most of my meals were taken in the kitchen with the cook, but I was really very fortunate at this time because we had alot of fresh vegetables and food. We were lucky to have rabbit stew or meat pies, and sometimes even a joint of meat , during ration times, which could be very hard to come by!!
I attended the local secondary school during my teenage years.
When the War ended I returned home to my family in London.
