I remember the dreadful bombing, especially Scotland Road and Netherfield Road, where 300 people were killed beneath a church. Mill Road Hospital was hit and a whole team performing an operation were hit, although the patient survived.
Patients were brought to Walton Hospital and children mixed in with adults. Two bombs went off in the hospital grounds and Walton Church was reduced to a shell. People bombed out went to Aintree racecourse where the American troops were billetted. I remember the troops marching on the pavement, not in the road, and I could notget past them with my pram. I lost my daughter, who at six months old was hit by shrapnel as we were getting off a tram.
