Whenever I was not on duty on Hayling Island my passion was dancing. We would dance regularly with sailors who were Free French. I had been dancing with the same young man for three nights and he could not speak a word of English but he was an excellent dancer. On the fourth night someone had taught him some English and he asked me "Would you like to see the stars on my ceiling"!
