"There鈥檚 a fellow my brother was chummy with. He was in Bomber Command, fellow called Jim Giffin. He was shot down over Germany. They managed to coax the plane down until they were over Belgium, but it wouldn鈥檛 go any further and they had to bale out eventually. 2 of his mates were killed, I think, but he survived. They landed between the German lines and the American lines. They eventually got to the Americans, but there was more danger from them than from the Germans. They were ready to go for them! For at that time the Germans were dropping people in British uniforms to try to confuse the American troops. They thought they were going to shoot them. He has some story to tell. But Jim survived it. He's a bit emotional when he starts talking about it."
