This is the actual postcard sent by Thomas James to the Lord Major of Belfast reprinted here with permission of PRONI

So many men were taken prisoner of war during WW2.Every couple of weeks they were permitted to send a postcard home to loved ones to let them know how they were doing.Among the records of Belfast City Council lodged at the Public records Office in Norther ireland some of these postcards have been found.Pows from Stalag XVIII used their postcards to contact the lord Major of Belfast in hope of a little romance or a penpal to fill those lonely days in the camp.
This is what Thomas James POW wrote to the Lord Major and republished here with the permission of PRONI.
'Your Lordship,
As you can see I am a POW and I receive very little correspondence,so will you please do me the favour by finding me a nice Belfast young lady to write to me.If possible I should like her to be about 24 years old, dark, unmarried, intelligent and a lover of the outdoors.By the way I am a welshman twenty six, unmarried and Ive yet to visit Ulster. I shall do so when this war is over.Thanking you in anticipation, Yours Faithfully, Thomas James
