LIVING IN SALFORD IN WAR TIME — RON BRITAIN
Sunday 3 September 1939.
Went looking for my sister’s boyfriend down Trafford Road and Chester Road and at the Barracks but we had no luck.
The Scout Camp site at Alder Forest, Worsley, had to be handed back to the farmer for growing food. We were moved to the grounds of Worsley New Hall. We spent many happy weekends clearing away overgrown bracken, trees etc. This camp site is still in use. This area was used by the Americans when they first landed here in England.
Sunday 22 December 1940.
My bed was set on fire by incendiary bomb and for 2 hours we knew very little about the air raid. This raid started at 6.30pm until 7pm.
Tuesday 22 December
Air raid started 7pm until early hours of the morning.
