As a small boy aged around 6 I have a vivid memory of being woken one summer evening by my Uncle and taken to the bedroom window of my Grandmothers house in Lewes, Sussex to see the sky full of gliders being towed in an easterly direction. This sticks in my memory because my Uncle on being asked why he had woken me replied, "He will remember this scene for the rest of his life", so far I have. When I say the sky was full this is not schoolboy exageration it wasn't just half a dozen more like a hundred because they took some time to pass over and seemed to keep on coming. I cannot be very specific about the date but the year was certainly 1994.
However I have always wondered where the formation was headed for and would dearly love to know whether this was an operational trip or just a training exercise.
